How Do I Make The Most Of My Ideas?

Ideas are the life fuel at Pop of Colour (alongside cups of tea, of course). As someone in the independent music industry reading this, you likely are full of creative ideas too. In this article, I’ll walk you through some troubleshooting techniques to help remove barriers you’re setting for yourself so that you make the most of your creative ideas.

PROBLEM #1 – “I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO FOCUS!”

Pick one of them and start. Seriously. If your ideas are all great, then it shouldn’t matter which one you start with!

PROBLEM #2 – “I HAVE A HISTORY OF NEVER COMMITTING LONG TERM.”

Play out the tape till the end. Where do you see yourself taking this idea down the line? Can you see it being part of your everyday life? Part of who you are? If your idea is to launch a content platform (podcast, YouTube channel, blog, etc…), it may be worth planning and creating the first two month’s of material before you even start.

PROBLEM #3 – “MY PERFECTIONISM IS SLOWING ME DOWN!”

Just do it. You can always update and tweak as you go.

PROBLEM #4 – “SOMEONE ELSE IS DOING SOMETHING SIMILAR!”

Figure out what makes you different.

PROBLEM #5 – “I’M SCARED OF WHAT OTHERS WILL THINK!”

Are you more scared of others’ judgement, or your reflection in the retirement home mirror with eyes of regret every morning? Your happiness and potential matters more than what the popular kids you went to high school with, your extended family, or strangers on the internet think.

Hope this little troubleshooting guide was just what you needed today. Please share this with friends who need to hear it.

Stay Colourful,

Clarence
